Brutal Attack by Russian Drones in Pokrovsk: Evacuations, Lost Lives, and the Courage of Police Officers
In the city of Pokrovsk, located in Donetsk Region, another grim chapter of cruelty and military aggression by Russia unfolded. Amid ongoing hostilities, Russian forces orchestrated a cynical attack on humanitarian evacuation efforts, turning the area into a battleground. During one such operation carried out by the police unit “White Angel” in cooperation with the “Chaplain Patrol” public organization, multiple drone strikes targeted the evacuation convoy. This was a deliberately targeted attack aimed at disrupting rescue operations and spreading terror among civilians and servicemen working tirelessly to save lives. The first strike occurred at the city’s outskirts, damaging an ambulance but luckily not causing the worst-case scenario. Later, in central Pokrovsk, drones struck the civilian vehicles and police patrols directly, with one drone hitting an ambulance transporting the wounded, damaging it beyond repair. Tragically, a motorcycle carrying a young couple was hit, resulting in severe injuries: the man lost a leg, and both sustained serious wounds. Police officers quickly responded, providing first aid, but despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Meanwhile, Russian troops used a new chemical weapon, further complicating the evacuation and increasing civilian suffering. This incident exemplifies the cruelty and cynical mindset of the enemy towards civilians. Currently, wounded police officer Kostiantyn Tuniatsky is undergoing treatment for shrapnel injuries to his leg; his life is no longer in danger. The “White Angel” team, along with volunteers, continues risking their lives daily to aid the remaining residents—approximately 1,700 people—who continue to face daily threats. Their heroism and dedication highlight the resilience of those fighting to save their compatriots amid the most challenging conditions.
