Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zheliazkov, during which they discussed strengthening regional energy security and boosting defense ties.

According to Zelensky, both sides agreed on a series of concrete steps aimed at stabilizing the region’s energy sector and diversifying supply sources.

The Ukrainian leader highlighted Bulgaria’s interest in collaborating with Ukraine on military projects, particularly those aimed at enhancing security in the Black Sea region.

Zelensky assured that their teams would work out the technical details to implement the agreements.

Additionally, the officials discussed the current sanctions framework, noting that Bulgaria’s parliament recently decided to restrict the export of fuel to EU countries in response to US sanctions against the Russian company Lukoil.

The conversation also touched upon recent accusations by Bulgarian authorities of Russian agents collaborating with migrant smugglers, emphasizing the importance of strengthened cooperation for regional security and stability.
