Sweden suspends Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport operations due to unidentified drones
In southern Sweden, near Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport, an evening incident on Thursday led to the temporary halt of air traffic after unknown unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, were spotted in the vicinity.
Swedish Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that reports of drone sightings came from local witnesses and validated the circumstances.
Spokesman Björn Stavass stated, ‘Drones have been observed in the Landvetter area,’ and consequently, the airspace in that district has been temporarily restricted for unmanned aircraft.
As a result, flights to Gothenburg are being rerouted to alternative airports, including Copenhagen.
This is not an isolated occurrence—similar incidents have been on the rise across Europe in recent weeks.
On Tuesday, November 4, several Belgian airports were closed due to mysterious drone flights, and further sightings were reported near the Klayne-Broghel military airbase in eastern Belgium.
Additionally, on Wednesday, November 5, Oostende police received multiple reports of drone sightings over the city center.
Belgian security agencies suspect that these recent series of drone incidents are likely orchestrated by a foreign state — with Russia being the most probable culprit.
These developments heighten concerns about security threats, espionage, and potential sabotage within the European airspace.
