Ukraine’s Energy System Under Strain: Call for Rational Consumption During Cold Months

Chas Pravdy - 04 November 2025 11:32

Recent trends in Ukraine’s energy sector reveal a challenging and tense situation due to increased electricity consumption.

Despite the gradual activation of additional heating capacities, the system remains under pressure and requires responsible behavior from the population.

Vitaliy Zaichenko, head of Ukrenergo, urged Ukrainians to reduce their use of heaters as much as possible and switch to more economical heating methods, such as wearing warm clothing and lowering indoor temperatures.

He explained that the colder months and increased humidity have contributed to higher loads on the electrical grid, especially during peak hours from 8 to 11 in the morning and 3 to 10 in the evening.

The energy expert emphasized that this period is the most difficult for the system, especially against the backdrop of new missile and drone attacks by Russia, which continue to cause outages and damage infrastructure.

Ukraine is preparing for winter, and it is vital for citizens to understand the importance of conserving resources, as adding heating capacity will not decrease consumption—that it will only continue to grow.

Moreover, experts warn that even with additional heating, significant reduction in consumption is unlikely due to lower temperatures and increasing energy demands.

Authorities call on Ukrainians to wear warm clothing and use electrical appliances responsibly to help stabilize the situation and maintain a sustainable energy balance throughout the winter.
