Belgium Closes Airports Amid Suspicion of Suspected Drones

Chas Pravdy - 04 November 2025 22:41

In Brussels and Liège, two major airports in Belgium, air traffic was temporarily halted due to security concerns following reports of unidentified drones flying nearby.

The decision was made based on air traffic control advisories after signals indicated the presence of drones near airport perimeters.

According to Kurt Verwilleg, spokesperson for Skeyes, the Belgian air traffic monitoring agency, around 8:00 PM, reports emerged of a drone flight over Brussels Airport territory.

Consequently, all flights in the region were temporarily suspended, with flights redirected to other airports including Maastricht.

It is noteworthy that Belgian authorities had initiated an investigation days earlier into multiple sightings of drones over military bases in the southern parts of the country.

Later reports confirmed that new suspicious drones were observed over the Kleinne-Brugel military base in the east.

In response to these incidents, the Belgian armed forces received orders to shoot down any unidentified aircraft near military installations.

These developments indicate heightened tensions and ongoing security issues related to drone activity in the region.
