Trump officially announces he will not participate in negotiations regarding Russian assets
Former U.S.
President Donald Trump publicly declared his disinterest in involving himself in diplomatic discussions concerning the future of Russian assets held abroad.
During a press briefing aboard Air Force One, he refused to comment on the potential impact of frozen Russian assets as leverage in negotiations between the West and Moscow regarding the Ukraine conflict.
Trump stated that he is not involved in such discussions and believes that Europe and Russia are already engaged in talks on this matter.
When asked by a journalist whether frozen assets could be used as pressure on the Kremlin, the former leader responded succinctly, “I’m not involved in that.” Meanwhile, analysts and sources highlight that the possibility of using frozen Russian assets — particularly around €140 billion stored in European accounts, including in Brussels — to fund Ukraine remains under consideration.
Experts warn that Russia could pursue legal action, as a significant portion of these funds is held at Euroclear, complicating potential measures.
European Union Representative Mette Frederiksen mentioned that decisions regarding reparations funding for Ukraine might be taken in the near future, attracting considerable international attention.
