Italy Prepares 12th Military Aid Package for Ukraine: New Support Measures and Diplomatic Signals
Italy officially announced the initiation of the preparation for its twelfth military aid package for Ukraine — a significant step in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
Defense Minister Guido Crosetto confirmed that Italy is working on forming the next batch of military equipment and supplies, which will continue the support programs initiated during the early months of the war.
According to Crosetto, the likelihood of this package being prepared soon is quite high — it will be no less substantial than previous aid packages, and the Italian government intends to present it shortly.
From a security and political strategy perspective, Crosetto emphasized that Italy has fully dispatched the planned military arsenal, including two SAMP/T air defense missile batteries, without weakening its own defense readiness, which remains a challenge.
Furthermore, he assured that the country is inclined towards joining NATO’s PURL initiative — a joint procurement program for U.S.
weaponry, including Patriot missiles, using European funds.
Since Russia’s large-scale invasion in 2022, Italy has already delivered 11 aid packages to Ukraine, valued at approximately 2.5 to 3 billion euros, encompassing military hardware and political support signals.
Details of specific programs are usually classified, but preliminary agreements suggest that the final, 12th package might be ready and handed over to Kyiv by the end of 2025, thereby bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities in this prolonged conflict.
