China Supports Initiative to Reinstate Talks Between South and North Korea
During a significant meeting in Seoul on November 1, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung reached out to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, seeking assistance in reviving dialogue with North Korea.
The Chinese leader expressed his support for such an initiative, emphasizing the importance of regional security efforts and peaceful resolution of conflicts on the Korean Peninsula.
The leaders discussed prospects for inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, green energy, and demographic challenges.
Xi Jinping urged both sides to “turn a new page” in their relationship, based on mutual respect, trust, and dialogue.
Meanwhile, North Korea announced the testing of new hypersonic missiles as a measure to deter enemies.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un dismissed calls for denuclearization, labeling them “an unrealistic dream of Washington and Seoul.” Beyond security issues, the Chinese leader highlighted the need for collaboration in technological fields including AI, biotech, and renewable energy.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung expressed hope that Seoul and Beijing would seize this opportunity to strengthen strategic communication and foster conditions conducive to restarting dialogue with Pyongyang, calling on North Korea to take steps toward denuclearization and regional stability.
