On October 30, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum held in Gyeongju, South Korea, a significant meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The leaders committed to further developing their bilateral relations with a focus on trade and security issues.

Carney received an official invitation from Xi to visit China at a mutually convenient time, opening new opportunities for enhanced regional cooperation.

The talks emphasized finding mutual solutions in trade matters, notably regarding agricultural commodities such as canola, seafood, and electric vehicles.

Additionally, the possibility of establishing a framework agreement aimed at deepening cooperation in energy, environmental, manufacturing, and financial sectors was discussed.

Xi Jinping highlighted the value China places on Canada’s expressed willingness to improve bilateral ties and affirmed China’s readiness to collaborate with Canada.

Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and trade disputes, this meeting marked a strategic step toward stabilizing and strengthening cooperation, which is expected to positively impact both regional and global economies.
