Belarus receives new ballistic threat: Lukashenko threatens the West with the use of ‘Oresnik’

In today’s geopolitical landscape, Belarus is becoming a focal point of tension through the deployment of advanced weaponry and authoritative rhetoric from its leadership.

According to intelligence data, by the end of 2025, missile systems capable of medium-range ballistic strikes, known as ‘Oresnik,’ will be stationed in the Mozyr region of Belarus.

These missiles, positioned just 120–140 kilometers from Ukraine’s border and 200 kilometers from Lithuania — the nearest NATO and EU member states — pose a serious security challenge to the region.

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that the weapons will be put on combat duty as early as December, openly threatening to deploy ‘Oresnik’ missile systems against Western opponents.

In an interview, he stated: “I want them to understand we can strike if things get bad.

We will sit down with Putin, make a decision, and strike.

So, don’t mess with us.” Lukashenko’s strategy involves demonstrating strength and delaying escalation, repeating Kremlin narratives that Ukraine initiated the war, not Russia, and blaming the West for breaking the Minsk agreements and deceiving Belarus.

Meanwhile, he acknowledged the successful operation of Ukrainian special forces, who eliminated one of three ‘Oresnik’ missiles in the Astrakhan region of Russia — a covert but successful mission.

This situation illustrates the rising tensions and the increased military activity in Belarus in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
