UN Condemns Possibility of U.S. Nuclear Testing Revival

Chas Pravdy - 30 October 2025 22:47

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has publicly expressed deep concern and strongly criticized the reports indicating that the United States might resume nuclear testing.

In his official statement, he emphasized that any actions related to nuclear weapons testing are absolutely unacceptable and could have devastating consequences for humanity.

Guterres highlighted that over the past 80 years, more than 2,000 nuclear tests have been conducted, and there is no justification for initiating such activities today given the current global security landscape.

He also noted that these steps could further escalate tensions in international relations.

The statement by U.S.

President Donald Trump regarding the intention to restart nuclear tests has stirred reactions worldwide, with experts warning that it could deepen mistrust between the U.S.

and China, complicating global security efforts.

Trump, on his social media platform Truth Social, announced that he had instructed the U.S.

Department of Defense to prepare immediately for nuclear testing, raising further alarms in the international community.

It is notable that just days earlier, Trump criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was conducting nuclear missile tests instead of working toward ending the conflict in Ukraine.

In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia’s Poseidon and Burevestnik systems are not classified as nuclear weapons and that Moscow has not received any official notifications from Washington regarding planned tests.

He added that the development of defense systems in other countries does not constitute nuclear testing activity, reaffirming Russia’s sovereign right to make independent decisions.

Peskov also mentioned that Russia’s reaction would depend on whether international agreements banning nuclear tests are violated.

The resumption of such tests could significantly impact international security and stability, contributing to the deterioration of diplomatic relations.
