Moldova Officially Explains Delay in Accreditation of New Russian Ambassador
Moldova has provided a detailed explanation for the delay in the official accreditation of the newly appointed Russian ambassador to the country.
According to acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, this delay is related to the diplomat’s behavior, which contradicts international diplomatic standards and protocols.
Popșoi noted that the ambassador has already been approved at the level of agreements, but without the official presentation of credentials and proper confirmation of his status by the Moldovan authorities, he does not have the authority to perform diplomatic functions.
“He behaves as if he already has diplomatic status, but diplomatic customs require the formal presentation of credentials to the Head of State.
His actions do not align with these norms, so his powers are currently limited,” Popșoi explained.
Additionally, he emphasized that relations between Moldova and Russia remain strained due to Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine, which significantly impact bilateral relations.
The minister expressed hope for a rapid return of peace in the region and called for Russia to adhere to international law and its obligations under the UN Charter.
Furthermore, Moldova has recently approved a military development strategy until 2035, highlighting the country’s serious intentions to strengthen its security and defense capabilities amid current global challenges.
