European Support for Lithuania Amid Missile Drones Provocations from Belarus

Chas Pravdy - 28 October 2025 00:31

The President of the European Council, António Costa, has officially reaffirmed the full support of the European Union to Lithuania in its efforts to counter multiple incidents involving the intrusion of meteorological drones from Belarus.

These issues have escalated recently with an increasing number of small meteorological drones crossing into Lithuanian airspace, violating the country’s sovereignty.

According to reports published by ‘European Pravda’, Costa emphasized that the EU strongly condemns these hybrid provocations and urges Minsk to cease such actions and prevent further incidents.

He also stated that the EU will continue to pressure the Belarusian regime for its active participation in hybrid warfare against Ukraine and its role in supporting aggressive actions against EU member states.

In recent days, Lithuanian authorities reported numerous violations of their airspace by micro-meteorological drones launched from Belarus.

The latest incident prompted the Lithuanian government to prepare measures for closing its border with Belarus indefinitely.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced that the government is working on the decision to temporarily close the border until further notice.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry informed Belarus of the decision to shut down the border until further instructions.

These steps are part of broader EU efforts to counter hybrid threats and reinforce eastern border security.
