North Korean Foreign Minister Visits Russia and Belarus in Major Diplomatic Move

Chas Pravdy - 27 October 2025 05:27

North Korea’s Foreign Minister, Choe Son Hui, embarked on a significant diplomatic journey, departing from Pyongyang aboard a private plane to visit Russia and Belarus.

According to state agency KCNA, she left the international airport in Pyongyang the day before at the invitation of her counterparts from the foreign ministries of these countries.

This trip marks her first visit in over a year and signals an important development in regional diplomacy.

She stayed in Moscow from Sunday through Tuesday, engaging in unofficial meetings with Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin.

Notably, the last official visit of a North Korean delegation to Moscow was in November 2024.

The timing of her trip coincides with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, raising questions about potential diplomatic negotiations between North Korea and the United States.

According to Yonhap, Kim Jong Un’s absence during the summit suggests that no official talks between North Korea and the U.S.

president are scheduled.

This diplomatic maneuver reflects ongoing regional tensions and the complexities of North Korea’s foreign relations.

Meanwhile, President Trump expressed a desire to meet Kim Jong Un again during his Asian tour, which includes a stop in South Korea for APEC, indicating continued efforts to revive dialogue amid regional uncertainties.
