EU Commissioner Expresses Doubts About Netanyahu’s Ability to Ensure Lasting Peace in the Middle East

Chas Pravdy - 27 October 2025 11:24

The European Union’s Crisis Management Commissioner has publicly voiced doubts regarding Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s capacity to establish long-term peace in the Middle East.

In an interview with Politico, Adja Lyabib emphasized that the region remains tense and volatile, with Palestinian suffering in Gaza far from over.

She pointed out that the greatest threat to sustained peace comes from ‘extremists on both sides,’ warning that despite calls for dialogue, some factions refuse to accept a two-state solution.

Lyabib stressed that the escalation level is alarming, and Israeli policies seem far from promoting stability.

She highlighted that Israel risks facing an international boycott due to its actions in Gaza.

Furthermore, she expressed concerns over the possibility of genocide, noting that the final judgment on this issue resides with the courts.

She referenced the UN’s independent investigation, which has concluded that genocide is either ongoing or has occurred, supported by distressing scenes reported by humanitarian workers.

Lyabib emphasized the importance of restoring humanity and compassion amidst the conflict, underlining that immediate truce, urgent aid, and hope for the future of those living in ruins must be prioritized.

She also stressed the need for a comprehensive international approach to find sustainable solutions, ensuring security and peace for both peoples in the region.
