Serbia ready to mediate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, says foreign minister
Serbian Foreign Minister Marco Djuric officially announced that Belgrade is prepared to serve as a mediator in the ongoing conflict resolution talks between Ukraine and Russia.
According to the diplomat, Serbia possesses valuable diplomatic experience and maintains positive relations with both sides, enabling it to act as an impartial and neutral intermediary.
Djuric emphasized that Serbia aims to leverage its expertise and diplomatic ties to promote peace and stability in the region, with a specific focus on halting the ongoing human losses and destruction that threaten thousands of lives daily.
He highlighted that even under challenging circumstances, diplomatic avenues should be prioritized to achieve peaceful settlement, and Serbia is ready to offer its services to facilitate a compromise.
Additionally, he stated that Belgrade upholds the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states within their internationally recognized borders, including Ukraine.
Regarding broader international developments, Djuric noted that the war between Russia and Ukraine should be ended as soon as possible, given its catastrophic humanitarian impact and extensive destruction.
Ultimately, he expressed that all diplomatic efforts and negotiations are the only way to reach mutual understanding and stability across the region, and Serbia will support peace processes in any way possible, recognizing its role as a neutral mediator.
