Trump Willing to Meet Putin Only if Ukraine Peace Is Assured
Former U.S.
President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to hold a follow-up meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but under a strict condition — he must be confident that such a meeting will lead to the complete peace in Ukraine.
Trump emphasized that his main goal is to secure an agreement that will put an end to the ongoing illegal war, which has been dragging on for several years.
When asked by journalists what Russia must do to trigger the rescheduled summit in Budapest, he stated: ‘We need to be sure about the outcome.
I will not waste my time needlessly.
My good relations with Vladimir Putin do not disappear, but this situation is very disappointing.’ According to Bloomberg, all recent shifts in his stance were allegedly driven by the belief that ending the Ukraine conflict remains possible through his personal diplomatic efforts.
Trump recalled that he previously managed to reach agreements in difficult situations — with India and Pakistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan — and stressed that almost all his concluded deals were much more challenging than potential agreements with Russia and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared he is ready to join negotiations in Budapest if he receives an invitation to participate in talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
