Dmitriyev Reports Near Diplomatic Resolution in Ukraine Conflict

Chas Pravdy - 25 October 2025 10:33

Kiril Dmitriyev, the special envoy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, has expressed cautious optimism regarding the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to him, Russia, the United States, and Ukraine are on the verge of reaching a diplomatic solution that could bring an end to the full-scale invasion.

After arriving in Washington for discussions with American officials, Dmitriyev stated live on CNN that a planned meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin has not been canceled, as claimed by the US leader, and is likely to take place at a later date.

European diplomats have previously indicated that EU countries, together with Ukraine, are actively working on a new proposal to establish a ceasefire along the current contact line, with the US playing a pivotal role in the diplomatic process.Dmitriyev highlighted significant progress on the part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has recognized that negotiations should focus on the frontlines.

He considers this a major step toward a diplomatic breakthrough.

Still, Russia’s representative clarified that Moscow is interested not merely in a ceasefire but in a comprehensive, final settlement of the war.He also noted that his visit to the US occurs amid recent sanctions imposed by Washington against two of Russia’s largest oil companies, aimed at pressuring Moscow to halt the conflict.

Dmitriyev assured ongoing dialogue between Russia and the US, emphasizing that such talks will only continue if Russian interests are respected and taken into account.

Diplomatic efforts continue with the hope of reaching an agreeable resolution that will end hostilities on mutually acceptable terms.Additionally, he recalled that after a phone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin last year, the US president announced plans for a personal meeting in Budapest.

However, preparations were halted after the cancellation of an in-person meeting between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Instead, the ministers spoke over the phone, but their dialogue did not yield concrete results, with Lavrov rejecting the idea of freezing the front line in Ukraine.

Subsequently, the US imposed new sanctions on Russia’s oil sector.

Analysts suggest that Russia’s recent missile strike on a Kharkiv kindergarten may have been a breaking point, prompting the US to intensify its pressure on Moscow.
