North Korea plans to build a memorial museum honoring overseas war veterans, including incidents involving Russia and Ukraine
In the heart of North Korea, in its capital Pyongyang, a large-scale construction of a new memorial museum has begun, dedicated to the soldiers of the Korean army who participated in military operations abroad.
This initiative is symbolic and aims to honor and commemorate the heroic deeds of soldiers involved in what is called the ‘liberation of the Kursk region of Russia.’ According to the North Korean state news agency KCNA, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 23, with photos capturing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, along with party and government officials, holding a shovel as a symbolic gesture.
Moreover, Kim Jong Un met with veterans who returned after participating in overseas military operations, lauding their bravery and dedication.
Propagandists emphasize the heroic military achievements described as being achieved at the cost of blood and sacrifice, symbolizing the unbreakable Korean-Russian military alliance.
Notably, in April 2025, both North Korea and Russia confirmed North Korean military involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia, including attacks in the Kursk region, which remains a zone of tension and combat.
Their cooperation is based on a treaty signed last year, promising mutual defense, which heightens international concern and tensions.
