Zelensky and Macron discuss Ukraine’s energy infrastructure security amid new Russian attacks
Following recent missile strikes by Russia that caused substantial damage to Ukraine’s energy system, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a crucial meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The two leaders participated in an informal discussion ahead of the so-called ‘Coalition of the Willing’ summit, which gathered representatives from several European countries supporting Ukraine in its fight against aggression.
The main topics included the frontline situation and the need to escalate pressure on Russia to cease its hostile actions and restore peace.
Zelensky emphasized that there is a unique opportunity now to end the war, but to do so, international support for Ukraine must be significantly increased, and a robust system of security guarantees must be established to safeguard the nation in the future.
Macron called for increased diplomatic efforts and the engagement of U.S.
and Russian leaders, specifically Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, to find pathways out of the crisis.
The discussion also touched on the consequences of Russian shelling on Ukrainian cities, with particular focus on the growing importance of air defense systems to protect lives and infrastructure.
Macron highlighted that stabilizing Ukraine’s energy sector remains a top priority for France, recognizing it as crucial for the country’s sustainable development.
He also expressed concern regarding upcoming negotiations between Trump and Putin, emphasizing that issues related to territorial integrity cannot be resolved without the participation of the European Union and Ukraine’s leadership, as regional security depends on it.
