U.S. Imposes Extensive Sanctions on Russian Oil Giants to Increase Pressure on Kremlin
The United States has taken a significant step in its effort to curb Russia’s economic influence by implementing new sanctions against the two largest Russian oil and gas companies — “Rosneft” and “Lukoil.” These measures aim to intensify pressure on the Kremlin by restricting its ability to finance military operations and support the country’s economic stability.
According to the U.S.
Treasury Department, these sanctions target not only the main companies but also their subsidiaries.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the government will continue to act firmly and, if necessary, impose additional restrictions to back international efforts to end Russia’s aggression.
Allies are called upon to join these sanctions and unite their efforts against Russia’s military machinery.
The most affected entities are “Rosneft,” engaged in exploration, production, refining, and marketing of oil and gas, and “Lukoil,” operating similarly both within Russia and abroad.
Both companies and their subsidiaries—automatically subject to asset freezes, even if not listed separately—are affected under U.S.
Executive Order No.
14024.
The Department advocates for a global effort to squeeze Vladimir Putin’s regime, calling for negotiations to halt this destructive war.
The U.S.
has expressed readiness to enhance sanctions and introduce further measures if needed, urging global unity to strengthen pressure and seek peace.
