Following extensive debates and criticism from former U.S.

President Donald Trump, Spain officially announced its decision to participate in the international initiative to procure arms from the United States in support of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared that Spain would join the PURL program, which involves purchasing American military equipment as part of NATO cooperation.

This move marks a significant step in strengthening defense collaboration between Spain and its allies amidst the tense situation in eastern Ukraine.

Sánchez emphasized that his government has consistently increased military expenditures since taking office, accusing previous administrations of not fulfilling their defense commitments.

While Trump repeatedly criticized Spain for its low defense spending, the new government demonstrates a commitment to act in accordance with European and international standards of security support.

Former critics, including Trump, remained dissatisfied, but now Spain plans to actively engage in joint military initiatives, enhancing its role in global security policies.

This decision symbolizes a shift in course and affirms Spain’s support for Ukraine in its fight against aggression, reinforcing transatlantic solidarity.
