NATO and the USA unite efforts to halt the war in Ukraine
The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, openly expressed support for U.S.
President Donald Trump’s plan to urgently cease military actions in Ukraine.
After meeting with the American leader at the White House, he stated that NATO is ready to back this initiative, emphasizing that the primary goal is to end the bloodshed and resolve the conflict.
Rutte highlighted that the USA is prepared to participate in the security guarantee system for Ukraine, which is being developed together with partners including Canada, Japan, Australia, and European nations.
He also pointed out the devastating losses of the Russian forces—reports indicate that last month alone, Russians lost over 20,000 personnel, with more than a million killed or injured since the beginning of the conflict.
These figures surpass the casualties caused during the ten-year-long war in Afghanistan.
Rutte expressed confidence that economic and sanctions pressures from the West are already impacting Russia: queues at gas stations, increasing issues with shadow imports, and restrictions on Russian oil supplies.
He believes that continued international pressure can compel the Kremlin to agree to ceasefire negotiations.
Earlier this week, Trump canceled a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, citing that the current circumstances were unsuitable for negotiations.
Additionally, on October 22, the U.S.
imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft, urging Moscow to immediately agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The hope is that persistent global pressure will push Russia toward peace talks and bring an end to the conflict.
