Myths and Reality Surrounding the Preparations for Putin and Trump’s Meeting in Budapest
Moscow has dismissed false reports from Western media claiming the cancellation of the preparatory steps for a possible summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump.
According to Kirill Dmitriyev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and a member of the Kremlin’s negotiation team, reports about halting the summit preparations are untrue and do not reflect the reality.
He emphasized that the work on organizing the meeting in Budapest is ongoing and has not been stopped, despite widespread reports to the contrary.
Dmitriyev stated that Western media distort comments from sources within the White House regarding a possible suspension of the preparatory work, efforts which are viewed as an attempt to sabotage the planned summit.
He also shared a post by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who claimed that ‘war supporters’ are attempting to create an informational background to disrupt this significant diplomatic event.
Sources indicate that Western agencies have unofficially learned that after conversations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the Russian side transmitted an unofficial document to the US outlining maximalist demands for ending the war in Ukraine.
Russia’s rejection of an immediate ceasefire has called into question the upcoming meeting in Budapest, previously agreed upon.
Some sources mention that the White House no longer sees the necessity of a meeting between Lavrov and Rubio, which was originally planned as part of preparations for the highest-level summit.
The situation remains tense, raising many questions about future international negotiations.
