Russia Reiterates Its Conditions for Peace Following Trump and Putin’s Phone Conversation

Chas Pravdy - 21 October 2025 22:33

Following a recent phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Russia officially transmitted an informal document, known as a ‘non-paper’, to the United States outlining its reiterated terms for achieving peace in Ukraine.

According to sources including Reuters and ‘European Truth’, Russia demanded full control over the Donbas region and imposed restrictions on NATO military deployments near the conflict zone.

The document’s additional details have not been disclosed, but it is confirmed that these demands align with previously articulated Russian prerequisites for peace negotiations with Ukraine.

It is known that during the call, Putin insisted that Ukraine cede full control over Donetsk and surrounding areas, a move that would essentially amount to Ukrainian capitulation.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov rejected immediate cessation of hostilities, which has led to diplomatic tensions.

Consequently, the US postponed planned meetings between Lavrov and Secretary of State Blinken, and they have also put on hold the scheduled Trump-Putin summit in Budapest, indicating a significant strain in diplomatic relations concerning the Ukrainian conflict.
