Ukrainians Warned of Border Delays Due to New Biometric Checks

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 22:37

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announces potential delays and queues at the Poland-Ukraine border due to the implementation of a new electronic control system — the Entry-Exit System (EES).

Specifically, near the Krakovets border crossing point, delays are observed, with approximately 50 vehicles waiting to exit Ukraine.

This is linked to the introduction of an automated data collection system that improves border monitoring and enhances measures against illegal migration.

When crossing for the first time, travelers will need to register by having their face photographed and fingerprints taken.

This process aims to speed up subsequent crossings by automatically matching data with the existing database and recording the time and place of entry and exit.

The European Union began phased deployment of EES on October 12 at borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.

The system will also track the movement of third-country nationals, including Ukrainians, allowing stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period, thus improving border security and reducing illegal migration.
