Lithuania Outlines Possible Components of EU’s 20th Sanctions Package Against Russia

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 12:22

Lithuania officially announced the potential measures included in the European Union’s upcoming 20th sanctions package aimed at Russia.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis indicated that the new package could introduce additional trade restrictions on goods from Russia and Belarus, as well as strengthen measures in the energy and financial sectors.

This move is seen as a logical continuation of existing sanctions, as certain areas such as energy and banking services remain outside the current restrictions.

The minister emphasized that work is already underway to ensure these issues are incorporated into the package.

Currently, EU countries are actively coordinating the 19th sanctions package against Russia, which is scheduled for review this Thursday.

Austria has lifted its veto on approving it, while Slovakia has expressed concerns, and Hungary has officially supported the package.

Earlier reports also highlighted the EU’s proposal to impose restrictions on companies that have been involved in falsifying flags and engaging in schemes to obscure sanctions violations involving Russian oil tankers, indicating an ongoing effort to prevent circumventing measures.
