Bulgaria Ready to Provide Air Corridor for Putin’s Trip to Budapest for Trump Meeting, Pending Ukraine Peace

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 21:32

Bulgaria has expressed its willingness to facilitate the flight of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to Budapest for an anticipated meeting with former U.S.

President Donald Trump.

According to Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georgiev, the country is prepared to grant an official air corridor for Putin’s aircraft if an official request is submitted and if peace efforts in Ukraine are achieved.

The minister emphasized that if peace is established in Ukraine, organizing such a high-level meeting should be possible through all available means.

When asked whether Bulgaria would coordinate such a corridor, he responded that the key issue is how the meeting will be conducted, especially if one of the participants cannot arrive by other means.

Recently, U.S.

President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin had their first phone conversation in nearly two months on October 16, during which they announced plans for a meeting in Budapest.

This would mark Putin’s first visit to the EU member capital since the outbreak of full-scale war.

European officials, including EU diplomat Kaja Kallas, have expressed concern over the possibility of Putin, who is subject to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, traveling to meet Trump within EU territory.

Polish diplomats also consider it unlikely that Putin would choose to fly over Poland for such a meeting, given the sensitive geopolitical situation.

The unfolding developments raise questions about stability and safety in the region, as well as the diplomatic maneuvers at play among the world’s key powers.
