Delays in Rheinmetall’s Ukrainian Plant Launch: Key Obstacles and Future Plans
Construction works on Rheinmetall’s new plant in Ukraine have yet to commence, despite official assurances.
In an exclusive interview, German company CEO Armin Papperger explained that the development of the manufacturing facility has been delayed due to a decision to relocate the site.
Originally, the plant was expected to start operations soon, but Ukrainian authorities have decided to change the location, which is currently under review and awaiting approval.
According to Papperger, once the new site is finalized, Rheinmetall intends to launch the plant within two years, aiming to replicate the success of its German facilities.
Additionally, future plans include establishing production of modern combat vehicles such as Fuchs, Lynx, and Panther in Ukraine.
The first Lynx units are already being assembled in Germany and are set to be delivered to Ukraine shortly.
However, finalizing the manufacturing contract remains uncertain because it requires substantial investment; Rheinmetall needs to produce at least 200-300 vehicles to make the project viable.
Experts note that the project’s success depends not only on financial inputs but also on regional political stability and broader geopolitical factors.
