Rutte Reports Significant NATO Advances in Ammunition Production and Defense Capacity Building

Chas Pravdy - 06 November 2025 23:43

NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, announced substantial progress in the alliance’s defense capabilities, particularly in ammunition manufacturing, which directly impacts the ongoing security landscape in Europe.

According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, NATO has closed the manufacturing gap with Russia in terms of ammunition production.

He highlighted that despite Russia’s continued threat and its military ambitions, the alliance has taken significant steps to boost its defense industry.

Currently, NATO is opening new production lines and upgrading existing facilities, resulting in an unprecedented increase in ammunition output—levels not seen in recent decades.

Rutte emphasized that Russia no longer holds an advantage in this sphere, a development that enhances NATO’s overall deterrent and defensive posture.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of progressing in other critical defense areas, such as high-tech air defense systems and affordable drone interceptors, to ensure comprehensive security for member states.

Despite the conclusion of active military operations against Ukraine, Rutte cautioned that threats from Russia and its cooperation with China, Iran, and North Korea remain significant.

Russia continues to be a destabilizing factor regionally and globally.

The alliance’s focus on expanding weapons production and technological innovation aims to maintain strategic superiority against opponents.

Rutte also pointed out that the ongoing modernization in military technology and infrastructure will be essential to future interoperability and defense readiness, particularly in high-tech areas.

He affirmed that NATO’s relentless efforts in increasing defense production capacities are vital to safeguarding Europe and the wider world, especially as the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve and new challenges emerge.
