Russia Deploys New Fake Videos and Disinformation Campaigns About the Frontline Situation

Chas Pravdy - 06 November 2025 03:37

Amid ongoing warfare, Russia continues to escalate its information attacks by spreading fake videos and disinformation designed to destabilize the situation at the front and undermine the morale of Ukrainian defenders.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian disinformation response centers have uncovered a new wave of propaganda materials circulating on social media, presenting seemingly authentic footage from combat zones.

Notably, the Center for Countering Disinformation reports the launch of a large-scale AI-generated video depicting Ukrainian soldiers in a dire situation near Vovchansk.

However, it has been confirmed that this footage was created through artificial intelligence and generative technologies, enabling the production of highly realistic but false images.

In the video, a man in military uniform appears to move through a flooded trench alongside what are purported to be other soldiers, but analysis shows that all scenes are digitally fabricated.

The purpose of such disinformation is to sow panic, cast doubt on the ability of Ukrainian forces to defend the country, and undermine trust in Ukrainian military leadership.

Additionally, the Center emphasizes Russia’s active use of deepfake technology to circulate false stories, such as claims about a “23-year-old mobilized Ukrainian soldier.” All these efforts aim to create an illusion of chaos and uncertainty within society, aiding the enemy in achieving strategic goals in Ukraine.
