Passenger flights halted due to drone near Hanover Airport
On the evening of November 5, a sudden incident occurred at Hanover City Airport in Germany, leading to a temporary closure of the airfield due to the presence of an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle.
According to local police reports, the airport was shut down from 10:00 PM to 10:45 PM after an arriving aircraft detected and reported a drone overhead.
The incident took place near an industrial zone adjacent to the airport, where the drone was observed flying.
As a result, several flights were rerouted to different airports, including Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn.
Some flights experienced delays but eventually managed to land.
One airline diverted its flight to Hamburg instead of Hanover, while another pilot returned to Amsterdam.
Additionally, a freight plane changed its course and landed at Cologne/Bonn Airport.
This incident follows a series of previous cases, such as the suspensions of Brussels and Liège airports on November 4, and Bremen Airport on November 2, all due to unidentified drones.
These events highlight an increasing trend of drone activity in European airspace, raising concerns over safety and security risks.
