How Ukrainian Veterans Can Receive Housing Rent Compensation: A Step-by-Step Guide
In Ukraine, defenders and veterans of the war are entitled to a range of state benefits, including financial compensation for housing rent.
This support aims to assist those actively defending the country or those who have returned to peaceful life with injuries or damages caused by combat.
The Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs has clarified the procedure for obtaining this assistance.
Veterans who lost their homes due to hostilities, reside in damaged housing, are undergoing rehabilitation far from their registered residence, or are internally displaced persons without their own housing can apply for compensation.
The amount of payment depends on the region of residence: in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odessa, it is two subsistence minimums (6,056 UAH), in regional centers 1.5 minimums (4,542 UAH), and in smaller localities one minimum (3,028 UAH).
If the rental cost exceeds this amount, the veteran covers the difference, and the state reimburses its part.
For short-term rentals (less than a month), compensation is proportional to the days of stay.
Funds are transferred to the bank account specified in the application.
Applications can be submitted through relevant veteran policy departments or Centers for Administrative Services, either in person or by mail.
Applications can be in paper or electronic form, depending on technical capabilities.
This measure is designed to ensure housing support for those who have served and help them resolve their housing issues after returning from the front.
