Rocket Strike on Oryol: Details and Newly Uncovered Facts

Chas Pravdy - 05 November 2025 05:44

On the night of November 5, the city of Oryol in Russia experienced a series of powerful explosions that caused significant disturbance among local residents.

Official Russian authorities claimed the blasts resulted from drone attacks, whereas eyewitnesses from the scene reported a missile strike.

Footage circulated on social media shows massive flare-ups and explosions that struck a vital thermal power plant (TPP), supplying about 40% of the region’s electricity and 65% of the city’s heat.

This plant is located approximately 160 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Experts analyzed the videos and concluded that the target was about 1.2 to 1.5 kilometers from the TPP, and the explosions did not produce typical air raid siren sounds or anti-aircraft defense activity.

Meanwhile, local officials reported that a drone was shot down over the city, with debris damaging private homes and a utility building.

Nearby is the enterprise “Oreltakmash,” involved in manufacturing military maintenance and evacuation equipment.

These events highlight how Ukraine employs modern weaponry, including the use of Neptune cruise missiles on October 31, which partially cut off the city’s power supply, and simultaneous strikes against a chemical plant in Bryansk.

The escalation of military actions underscores the ongoing conflict and the interconnectedness between front-line operations and energy infrastructure in the rear.
