Turning Point in the Battle for Pokrovsk: Can Ukrainian Forces Hold the Strategic City?

Chas Pravdy - 04 November 2025 00:43

Recent reports highlight increasing tensions on Ukraine’s southern front, particularly around the towns of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk.

According to military experts, Ukrainian defenders face severe challenges as Russian forces continue to fortify their positions near critical urban areas.

Veteran of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Mykola Melnyk, mentioned in a live broadcast on Vechir.LIVE that Ukrainian troops are likely to have to withdraw from Myrnohrad in the near future.

The main priority now is preserving personnel, rather than holding positions at all costs.

Melnyk emphasized that Russian units are not retreating from the bridgehead near Rodynske, creating a tactical encirclement for Ukrainian forces south of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.

The distance between the enemy from the north and south is less than four kilometers, significantly complicating the situation for Ukraine’s defenders.

As of November 3, the battlefield map shows continued intense fighting.

Despite the hardships, the situation in Pokrovsk remains tense but not lost; Ukrainian forces are still conducting operations amid street battles.

Vyacheslav “Lyutyi,” commander of the “Shersnii Dovbusha” attack drone battalion of the 68th Separate Ranger Brigade, confirmed that numerous Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups are infiltrating the city.

Their destabilizing activities threaten to disrupt Ukrainian logistics and undermine the overall battle effort, posing a serious challenge for Ukrainian troops trying to maintain control of the area.
