Tragedy on Nepal’s Mountain: Avalanche Claims Lives of Seven Climbers on Yalung Ri

Chas Pravdy - 04 November 2025 01:32

On Monday, a devastating avalanche struck the high peaks of Nepal, resulting in the deaths of seven climbers during an ascent on Yalung Ri mountain.

Among the victims were five international mountaineers and two Nepali guides, with five individuals injured.

Details of the incident are reported by the international news agencies Associated Press and CNN.

An official from the police force, Sheriff Sandra Tapa, confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing, with rescuers having reached the scene on foot due to poor weather conditions that prevented helicopter access.

Another attempt to reach the site is scheduled for early Tuesday morning.

Yalung Ri, standing at 5600 meters high, is known as a popular destination for beginner climbers, as its relative accessibility allows novices to try mountaineering under expert guidance.

Spring is traditionally the busiest season for ascents, with favorable weather conditions and snow-capped peaks facilitating successful climbs.

However, recent weeks have seen worsening weather, including snowstorms and high winds, making high-altitude rescue efforts especially challenging in the region.

Authorities continue their search and rescue operations, warning climbers to exercise caution and be aware of potential risks during such high-altitude expeditions, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
