Putin Implements Year-Round Conscription: Continuous Draft Operations Spark Concerns
In Russia, a significant shift in military policy has been announced — starting from 2026, a year-round conscription system will be introduced, meaning that mobilization efforts will take place continuously throughout the year.
Vladimir Putin, known to Ukrainian readers as a dictator, signed a law approved by the Russian State Duma on October 28, which is now published in the official registry of legislative documents.
This decision fundamentally alters recruitment practices, as the enlistment of military reservists will now occur throughout the entire year—from January 1 to December 31—breaking the tradition of seasonal drafts in spring and autumn.
Additionally, from 2026 onwards, draft and medical commission workforces, which previously operated periodically, will now be functioning around the clock, ensuring uninterrupted mobilization processes and ongoing recruitment of new servicemen at all times.
