Drone Attacks Hit Two Oil Facilities in Russia: A New Blow to Industrial Security

Chas Pravdy - 04 November 2025 07:29

On the night of November 4th, unsettling reports emerged about a major technogenic crisis in the Russian city of Kstovo, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

An aerial drone assault caused significant destruction and ignited a large fire at two critical regional oil facilities—the Lukoil oil terminal and the SIBUR petrochemical plant.

Witnesses reported bright flashes and explosions that lit up the night sky, creating panic among local residents.

The incident occurred in the industrial zone, specifically near the village of Novoliekevo, affecting two of the largest enterprises in the area: “SIBUR-Kstovo” and “LUKOIL-Nizhny Novgorod Petroleum Refinery.” Experts highlight that these plants produce essential components for the industry and energy sectors.

“SIBUR-Kstovo” manufactures ethylene, propylene, benzene, and other hydrocarbon products, while “LUKOIL” supplies the Moscow region and beyond with automotive and aviation gasoline, diesel fuel, and related petroleum products—crucial for national energy security.

This attack underscores the vulnerability of Russia’s critical infrastructure and presents a new challenge for its protection.

Such incidents pose potentially devastating consequences for the region and emphasize the urgent need for enhanced security measures for vital infrastructure facilities.
