Shocking Car Accident in Ivano-Frankivsk Region: Judge Arrested with a Bond Over 1 Million Hryvnias
A recent tragic event in the Carpathian region has once again highlighted serious issues concerning road safety and the accountability of high-ranking officials in Ukraine.
At the center of the incident is a judge from the Pidhaieцьkyi district court of Ternopil region, who, while driving a Lexus, caused a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of a man and minor injuries to another pedestrian.
According to the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the judiciary has imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention with a bail set at over 1 million hryvnias.
The criminal case indicates that the suspect is charged with traffic safety violations leading to a fatal outcome, with a potential prison sentence of up to eight years.
The incident occurred on October 31 in the evening when the judge hit two pedestrians crossing at a crosswalk.
Besides the loss of life of one male victim, the other pedestrian sustained only minor injuries.
This tragedy is a stark reminder of the ongoing issues on Ukrainian roads, similar to recent deadly accidents in Lviv region, where four military personnel lost their lives after their vehicle collided with a truck.
