Russia spreads new fake reports about Ukrainian soldiers’ punishment and disinformation tactics

Chas Pravdy - 03 November 2025 16:36

Russian propaganda outlets continue to flood the information space with fakes and disinformation, aiming to destabilize Ukraine and undermine trust in its defenders.

Recent incidents reveal that Russia actively disseminates falsehoods through manipulated videos and statements, utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to forge deepfakes.

For example, a recent video showed a Ukrainian soldier allegedly tied to a tree and accused of drunkenness, but the Center for Countering Disinformation confirmed that this was a fabricated fake.

The soldier’s face was altered using AI deepfake technology, easily detectable through specialized verification services.

The goal of such malicious manipulations is to erode confidence in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, weaken morale, and complicate mobilization processes.

Historically, experts note that harsh disciplinary practices, such as tying up and beating soldiers, are commonplace in the Russian army, with numerous online videos supporting this claim.

Moreover, Russian media spread even more brutal fakes concerning alleged mine threats on the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers or claims about personal belongings, but no evidence has been provided to substantiate these statements.

These disinformation campaigns are part of a deliberate information warfare designed to sow panic and destabilization within Ukraine.

The Ministry for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories advises caution and to rely only on verified sources, emphasizing the importance of critical scrutiny to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
