Belarus Again Discusses Potential Deployment of Peacekeepers in Ukraine

Chas Pravdy - 03 November 2025 14:37

Amidst ongoing tensions in Ukrainian-Belarusian relations, new reports have surfaced suggesting Belarusian peacekeepers could be deployed in Ukraine.

Aleksei Skabeі, head of the international military cooperation and peacekeeping activities at the command of the Belarusian Special Forces, confirmed that Belarusian troops are prepared to act if necessary.

He emphasized that such a decision depends not only on Belarus but also on both conflicting sides, stating, ‘We are always ready to assist upon the request of both parties.’ It is important to recall that Belarus has long supported Russia in its full-scale aggression against Ukraine, providing logistical support, military bases, and airfields for offensive operations.

President Alexander Lukashenko openly endorses Moscow’s actions, and Belarus has been accused of assisting Russia in the deportation of Ukrainian children.

Previously, Lukashenko stated that only Belarusian peacekeepers could facilitate normal relations between Ukraine and Russia, but Minsk does not intend to send them to the frontlines.

Later, in February, he claimed Russia would never agree to deploying peacekeepers from EU countries in Ukraine and accused the EU leadership of ‘aggressiveness.’ Reports indicate that the UK and France are preparing plans to station up to 30,000 European troops in Ukraine.

The United States expressed support for this European mission but declined to participate directly.

According to Bloomberg, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the possibility of deploying troops to Ukraine.
