Russian Fake Reports of Victories: The Reality of Ideological Disinformation on the Front Line

Chas Pravdy - 01 November 2025 23:19

Once again, the Russian Ministry of Defense has demonstrated its penchant for creating false news and spreading disinformation about the situation on the Ukrainian front.

The latest incident concerns claims of having destroyed the Ukrainian 16th Mechanized Brigade — which, in fact, does not exist.

According to Russian military sources, an alleged strike resulted in the deaths of eight Ukrainian soldiers, and there were attempted evacuations of units supposedly encircled near Petrivka and Velyka Shapkivka.

However, the operational-tactical group ‘Kharkiv’ pointed out that this brigade is entirely fictional.

‘The Russian Ministry of Defense lives in its own virtual world, where every report is a fiction and victories are digital illusions,’ the military personnel emphasized.

This showcases the pattern of Russian propaganda attributing victories to itself even over invisible or fictitious units, a classic example of information warfare aimed at creating an illusion of dominance and strength in the informational space.
