Lukashenko Threatens to Use ‘Oresnik’ Missile System to Intimidate Neighbors and Justify Military Ambitions

Amid escalating tensions surrounding Ukraine and increasing military pressure from Russia, Belarusian self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko made provocative statements causing a stir in international media and analytical circles.

He announced plans to deploy the new Russian missile system ‘Oresnik’ on combat duty, calling it ‘a terrifying weapon’ intended to deter potential adversaries and secure the country’s safety.During a visit to the Vitebsk region, Lukashenko confirmed that the system would be put on combat duty by December.

He explained that this measure is meant to send a clear message to foreign opponents that Belarus has the capability to respond and utilize force if circumstances worsen.

He also mentioned discussions with Putin regarding this and assured that in case of necessity, the system would be put into active service.Lukashenko emphasized that this step is crucial to avoid a Ukraine-like scenario, which, in his view, started with the repression and killing of Russian-speaking people on the Donbas.

The Belarusian leader shared that he considers the Minsk agreements as a tool used by the West and Ukraine to deceive Russia and Belarus.

He criticized that millions of Ukrainians have already been killed or injured, warning others not to provoke further conflict.International concern grows as Belarus has previously demonstrated its readiness to deploy the ‘Oresnik’ missile system, which was used by Russia against Ukraine in November 2024.

The country’s military exercises ‘Zapad’ last month showcased its potential deployment, raising alarms among neighboring nations.Overall, Lukashenko’s statements can be seen as an attempt to expand diplomatic and military leverage in the region, making it clear that Belarus is prepared to use force to deter threats.

Such declarations heighten regional tensions and underscore the ongoing uncertainties about future conflict scenarios, making this issue one of high geopolitical importance for neighboring countries and the international community alike.
