Ukrainian Forces Achieve Significant Gains in Northern Sumy Region: Operational Update

Chas Pravdy - 31 October 2025 04:34

According to research by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian armed forces have recently made notable advances along specific sectors of the front in northern Sumy region.

This progress was confirmed shortly before, with geolocation videos published on October 30 revealing that Ukrainian troops pushed forward in the eastern part of the village of Kostyantynivka.

This village is situated near the international border with Russia and lies in the western sector of the Russian invasion zone in Sumy Oblast.

It is also reported that Ukrainian forces may have previously liberated Kyndrativka, located slightly south of Kostyantynivka.

As of October 30, the frontline in the northern part of the region remained fluid.

The Ukrainian General Staff’s evening briefing confirmed that on the Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled two enemy attacks since the beginning of the last day.

Additionally, the enemy carried out ten airstrikes, dropping 22 guided bombs, and conducted 178 artillery shellings targeting Ukrainian positions and populated areas—eight of which involved missile systems.

The report also cites a Russian military blogger, who stated that Russian troops are employing thermobaric TOS-A1 artillery in northern Sumy, indicating increased engagement and adaptive tactics on both sides in this critical sector.
