Russian Informant Sentenced to Over Eight Years in Prison for Collaboration with Enemy
In a significant security breakthrough, Ukrainian authorities have exposed a Russian spy working within the country who aimed to assist the occupying forces in their military operations.
According to law enforcement and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), a local woman from Poltava region was detained this February on suspicion of targeting Ukrainian fire for enemy artillery.
Evidence collected by the SBU indicates that she monitored the locations of radar stations and mobile firing groups of Russian troops deploying rocket and drone attacks over the region.
After the strikes, she gathered photographs and coordinates of the damage, transmitting critical intelligence back to the enemy forces.
The investigation revealed that she sought ‘easy earnings’ through Telegram channels, which eventually led to her detection.
During searches, authorities confiscated her smartphone, containing proof of her collaboration.
Under Ukrainian law, she was charged with unauthorized dissemination of information about Ukrainian military positions during wartime.
Thanks to her cooperation with investigators and genuine remorse, the court sentenced her to more than eight and a half years of imprisonment, highlighting the ongoing efforts to counteract espionage and protect national security.
