In Kyiv, suspect detained for explosion at postal facility: sent military ordnance as souvenirs

The Kyiv police conducted a significant operation that culminated in the detention of a suspect linked to an explosion that occurred at a postal center in the capital.

The 40-year-old resident of Ternopil was detained at his residence, where over ten shells of various calibers were confiscated.

Preliminary investigations suggest he was converting ammunition into souvenirs by engraving and mailing them.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 263 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which prescribes penalties for illegal handling of weapons and explosives.

The article’s sanctions include up to seven years in prison.

It is important to note that on the day of the explosion, an detonation occurred during the inspection of a parcel at the Ukrposhta sorting center, injuring five employees and customs officials.

During the investigation, police recovered remnants of an explosive shell and another dangerous parcel containing deactivated ammunition.

Authorities remind the public: explosives, weapons, and hazardous substances are not toys or souvenirs, and their storage or transportation without proper authorization is extremely dangerous and subject to criminal liability.
