Fighting for Pokrovsk: Weather, Enemy Tactics, and Strategic Challenges

Chas Pravdy - 31 October 2025 01:39

In southern Ukraine, near the city of Pokrovsk, key battles are ongoing, capturing the attention of the international community and Ukrainian defenders alike.

Enemy assaults in this sector of the front have become significantly more difficult, not only because of well-organized Ukrainian defensive positions but also due to the unexpected influence of autumn weather.

According to commanders of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade and other military experts, rain and wet ground have greatly hampered enemy offensive capabilities, complicating their logistics and supply routes.

The military notes that this natural phenomenon has unexpectedly become an ally for the defenders, as the damp November weather makes enemy advances less successful and easier to neutralize.

Additionally, Ukrainian forces have intensified counterattacks, destroying small groups of infantry—groups of three or four fighters advancing toward Ukrainian positions.

As Commander Bohdan Burdeliuk of the 3rd Air Assault Battalion explained, it has become much easier to eliminate the enemy now compared to summer, when heat and dust hampered efficiency.

Besides battles on the front lines, there are serious issues in the enemy’s rear—widespread shortages of water and food within their units, which hinder their progress further.

Military analyst and Reserve Council head Ivan Timochko asserts that Russian forces have deployed all available resources to seize strategic points in Pokrovsk and Myrnohroda, following the orders of the Russian political leadership.

According to him, the Russian command is intent on ‘smashing the city with bodies,’ indicating the high stakes, risks, and brutal tactics involved in this offensive.
