Diplomatic Tensions Surrounding Gaza: Muslim Countries’ Foreign Ministers Gather in Turkey

Chas Pravdy - 31 October 2025 17:47

An upcoming high-level diplomatic meeting of foreign ministers from Muslim nations is scheduled to take place in Turkey, focused on discussing the prospects of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that on Monday, in Istanbul, representatives from various countries will convene to deliberate on how to advance towards a ceasefire and restore stability in the volatile region.

He expressed doubts about the sustainability of the current ceasefire, citing previous failed attempts.

According to Reuters, the delegates attending include foreign ministers who participated in a September meeting with U.S.

President Donald Trump in New York.

During that gathering, representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia discussed future steps.

Fidan emphasized that current discussions focus on transitioning to the second phase, involving stabilization efforts in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly rejected any role for Turkish security forces in monitoring the ceasefire, adding tension to the diplomatic initiatives.

Despite the official ceasefire, Israel has launched additional strikes on Gaza, claiming it responded to the killing of an Israeli soldier by Hamas operatives.

These strikes resulted in at least 26 casualties, intensifying fears of escalation.

U.S.

President Donald Trump stated that the recent Israeli attacks do not threaten the ceasefire agreement, but the stability of the region remains uncertain.

The U.S.

continues to push for negotiations, the release of hostages, Gaza’s demilitarization, and the establishment of a future Palestinian state—ambitions that seem promising on paper but face serious doubts in practice, as analyzed by V’yacheslav Likachov in his article “Trump’s Plan for Gaza: A Historic Opportunity for Peace or an Illusion?”.
