Explosion at Ukrposhta in Kyiv: Details from the State Customs Service and Incident Outcomes
On October 30th, Kyiv experienced a critical incident at one of its major postal control points—Ukrposhta’s customs post—raising concerns among law enforcement agencies and the public alike.
During routine customs inspection, an explosion occurred at the Kyiv customs post, which could have led to severe consequences.
According to official information from the State Customs Service, an unknown explosive device was found inside an international postal parcel scheduled for export from Ukraine.
The incident resulted in injuries to several officials, including two customs officers and three Ukrposhta employees, all of whom received prompt medical assistance on site.
Ukrposhta CEO Dmytro Smilyansky confirmed that the explosion happened during the inspection process meant to prevent the shipment of prohibited items.
He emphasized that the automated control system worked effectively, allowing officials to detect and confiscate another suspicious package with dangerous contents.
Mr.
Smilyansky noted that all measures are being taken to clarify the situation and identify other potentially hazardous shipments, with the help of integrated information systems.
As a result, authorities have identified the sender and temporarily halted clearance procedures for all related parcels from this individual.
Law enforcement agencies are conducting ongoing investigations, and work at the scene has been completed.
Currently, the processing of shipments in this zone is suspended, but import operations are ongoing normally.
Authorities have assured that work will resume as soon as the security situation stabilizes, restoring postal activities to their usual rhythm.
