Heating Season Begins in Ukrainian Cities and National Energy Security Concerns

Chas Pravdy - 29 October 2025 16:00

As the cold weather approaches, Ukrainian cities have intensified their preparations for the heating season.

However, the start of heating remains a critical issue causing concern among residents.

In Lviv, the heating supply to residential buildings will commence from Monday, November 3rd.

According to Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, residents will have their apartments heated within the next two to five days, depending on the condition of the heating systems.

Meanwhile, healthcare facilities, schools, and kindergartens are already connected to the heating network, marking a significant step in winter readiness, as officials confirm that heat is supplied to the most vulnerable sectors. In Dnipro, the heating season is scheduled to begin on November 1st, according to the city council.

Initially, heat will be supplied to social infrastructure facilities to ensure safety and comfort.

In Ternopil, heating has been underway since October 29th, while similar measures have been taken in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where heating will start early November.

Other cities, like Sumy and Ivano-Frankivsk, started their heating seasons in late October.Experts warn that Ukraine must prepare for a possibly harsh winter.

Last spring, gas reserves in the country’s storages hit a record low of less than 5 billion cubic meters.

Thankfully, through active imports, the reserves have been restored to last year’s levels, and the pace of gas injection remains high, giving hope that Ukraine can weather the winter, even if it turns out to be severe.

Meanwhile, the energy sector faces ongoing challenges due to intensified Russian energy terrorism, complicating stable supply chains.

Ukrainian citizens are anxiously awaiting stable heat and preparing for potential disruptions, emphasizing that energy security remains a fundamental element of national stability and resilience.
